National Records

Adastra has already implemented the presentation within its encounter records of the national summary record solutions in Scotland (the Emergency Care Summary) and Wales (the Emergency Health Record). Work is underway with Connecting for Health (CfH) in England to support presentation of the GP Summary Record, and also in the Netherlands in support of the national government's NICTIZ programme.

The National Programme for IT (NPfIT)

For the English National Programme for IT Adastra is a recognised Existing Systems Provider and has been awarded a contract under the Additional Supply Capability and Capacity (ASCC) for the supply of solutions in several categories. We are actively engaged in two CfH projects.

The first is the the Summary Care Record (SCR) which will provide access from within Adastra to GP surgery-originated summary information. Adastra is working with CfH to enable direct access to the patient's summary record to be called within the flow of an Adastra-recorded encounter, and as an onward step to report encounters both to the SCR and to the core clinical record held by the patient's registered GP. The project is currently at initial pilot stage with an Adastra-user service in Greater Manchester.

Connecting for Health has released a video explaining the benefits of the Summary Care Record, available to download or view online here.

The second CfH project with which we are involved is ETP2 - the second phase of electronic prescribing - where we are currently working with the Electronic Prescribing System (EPS) team to establish the requirements specific to unscheduled care scenarios.

Within these projects we are including support for NHS smartcard authentication and access to PDS (the Patient Demographics Service) to allow lookup of patient NHS Number. Smartcard authentication will be a requirement for clinicians to access these CfH services.
