Project Management

Modern urgent care organisations are both operationally and technically complex. The sometimes competitive influence of multiple commissioning, hosting and provider agencies also makes for a challenging environment in which to deliver an effective systems solution.

Against this testing backdrop it is crucial for the delivery of that solution to be professionally managed. Adastra provides its own project management capability because it is able to draw on a wealth of domain experience derived from other corresponding projects all over the UK and beyond. We understand all the dependencies which, if left to chance, can bring a crucial project to a shuddering halt. Our aim is to guide and support the customer in delivering, within budget, and on time. And we have an outstanding track record in achieving to that commitment.

Experience

Adastra’s Project Management Team has over 30 man-years' experience of managing IT projects, both inside and outside the NHS. The role has been crucial in helping to re-shape the national network of urgent care operational hubs formed in response to changes in the GP contract and to deliver electronic links between these services and NHS Direct or NHS 24. The Project Management Team’s efforts in support of the Department of Health Technical Links Programme drew warm accolades from NHS Direct and from the Department itself.

Value

The sheer value of getting major projects right at the first attempt should never be taken for granted. Our project management pathways are thoroughly researched and frequently exercised. They invariably involve many parallel threads of activity to manage dependencies rooted in NHS organisations, communications providers, other third party suppliers, and of course the different specialist teams engaged within both the customer and Adastra organisations. These processes represent a gold standard not just for systems installation and deployment, but for many aspects of the customer operation dependent on IT functionality. Project management forms only a very modest proportion of typical project outlay, yet it is absolutely vital to a successful outcome.
